Get Your Students Involved in Spreading Holiday Cheer to Our Troops
The holidays can be a particularly difficult time for military personnel who are stationed away from family or who are in a military hospital. A few words of appreciation and a little holiday cheer can go a long way in brightening a soldier's day. You can help by getting your students or your own children involved in the Holiday Mail for Heroes project. The Red Cross collects holiday greeting cards between October and early December and they distribute them at military installations, veterans hospitals, and in other locations. Make sure to read and follow the card guidelines. The deadline to have the cards to the Red Cross is December 7.
Want to do a little more? Your family may want to participate in the USO Holiday Box program. The USO accepts monetary donations to provide holiday boxes containing treats, decorations, holiday CDs and DVDs to the troops. You can donate online.
