GIVE THANKS TO SANDY'S HEROES, HERE

Giving Thanks to the Heroes of Hurricane Sandy

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio launched a website to help New Yorkers thank first responders, City workers, non-profit organizations and volunteers for their work in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Anyone can post a message, photo or video to the "wall" at SandyHeroes.com. So far, the site has received dozens of submissions.

“Hurricane Sandy may have torn homes and neighborhoods apart but it also brought our city closer together. First responders, City workers, and especially volunteers have gone above and beyond to help those in need before and after the storm.” said Public Advocate Bill de Blasio. “There is no better time to show our appreciation to our local heroes. Let us show them how grateful we are for all the work they have done.”

Excerpts of some of the thank you notes at SandyHeroes.com include:

“Thank you to the Department of Sanitation! Your above and beyond efforts in Rockaway have not gone unnoticed.”

“Thank you for all those who brought in supplies and patrolled the streets. Despite the fact that we had no power and no phones, we felt safe.”

“A huge thank you to the more than 60,000 volunteers of Occupy Sandy.”
