On Monday, November 19, Deputy Borough President Sandra Chapman will kick off the holiday season by distributing nearly a thousand Thanksgiving turkeys and several tons of trimmings—apples, collard greens, baking potatoes and sweet potatoes— to representatives of more than 120 Brooklyn community groups at Borough Hall Plaza. Volunteers help distribute the food that will provide Thanksgiving meals for Brooklynites who live in neighborhoods hard hit by Hurricane Sandy, as well as for senior centers, soup kitchens, churches, and women's shelters across the borough.
National Grid will also be providing carbon monoxide detectors and blankets to be distributed to storm-ravaged communities.
