WE NEED ANOTHER COMMISSION?

email_header 2

Dear Friend:

Since taking office, Governor Cuomo has made transforming our state's education system a top priority. He knows that it is essential to give our students the knowledge and tools they need to compete in this global economy. As part of that effort, this week, the Governor issued an Executive Order creating the New NY Education Commission.

This Commission brings together the top community, education, and business leaders to closely examine the current structure of our state's education system, including: teacher recruitment and performance, student achievement, education funding and costs, parent and family engagement, problems facing high-need districts, and the best use of technology in the classroom. The Commission will also analyze the organization of school districts to ensure they are structured to meet the needs of New York's students, while also respecting the taxpayer.

This is just the latest step Governor Cuomo has taken to ensure our education system is one that promotes student achievement and fosters school accountability. A key part of this effort was the agreement he achieved on a nationally-recognized teacher evaluation system, which was passed by the Legislature in March. This year's budget also increased education funding by 4 percent, including $125 million in funding for a competitive education performance grant program linking school aid to student performance.

Governor Cuomo is making sure our kids are getting the education they deserve and we're getting the most out of our tax dollars.

Together, we're building a new New York.
