We are supporting Judge Barbara Jaffe, who is a candidate for Judge of the New York County Surrogate's Court. Currently, Judge Jaffe is a highly respected, dedicated, and committed Supreme Court Judge, sitting by designation. As Surrogate, she will continue to exemplify the very highest standards expected of that position, as she has in her more than 10 years on the bench.
Judge Jaffe currently presides over a New York Supreme Court part handling all kinds of cases brought by and against the City of New York, and she is also designated to try matrimonial cases. In both capacities, Judge Jaffe is noted for her efficient calendar management and well-reasoned opinions which are often published And, she decides issues like those arising in surrogate's Court involving trusts, fiduciary duties, accountings, attorney fees, family disputes, real estate, and taxes...
Recognizing that judges need to be part of the community they serve, Judge Jaffe has been very active in various City and State bar associations, including serving as Co-Chair of the Committee On Professional Ethics and Discipline for the New York Women's Bar Association, addressing new ethical rules and issues of gender bias, and as Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee for the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York. At the New York City Bar Association, she has served on the Nominating Committee, the Art Law Committee, and Special Committees on Capital Punishment and on Public Service and Education. She chaired a special committee that created a Criminal Justice Handbook in English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Korean, and Russian.
Additionally, Judge Jaffe writes, lectures, and publishes articles in law reviews and journals. She has volunteered her time to support various community groups such as the Stanley M. Isaacs Center and the Friends of Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.
Competitive campaigns for Surrogate's court are costly. With this in mind, Ballon Stoll Bader & Nadler, P.C. will be hosting a fundraising event for Judge Jaffe on Wednesday, April 25th at 6:00pm.
