STOP THIS CENSUS ASSAULT

Dear Lucas  ,

As we have informed you, the US House of Representatives has passed legislation that would eliminate critical Census Bureau programs like the American Community Survey (ACS). This bill now goes over to the U.S. Senate for consideration. The Census Project, a coalition of organizations and individuals that support the Census, has written a letter to Senators that opposes the proposed draconian cuts . We want to make sure that the Senate hears from the Latino community on this and we would like you to consider having your organization sign on to this letter.

The Senate is expected to consider its own version of the FY2013 Census Bureau budget as early as Tuesday of next week. Therefore, we are circulating the attached letter for co-signatures . Please let Brendan Nichols ( bnichols@ccmc.org ) know if you can sign the letter by 9:30 a.m. (EDT) next Tuesday May 15, 2012.

I don't have to tell you know how critical the information generated by the Census is to the Latino community. This assault on the Census, if successful, would seriously weaken our ability to measure the social and economic status of the Latino population and remove an important tool for holding American institutions accountable to our community. So if you could support this letter by our friends at The Census Project, we would be most appreciative.
