It still happens all too often.
Nine out of 10 LGBT students are bullied in school - and many times much worse.
Congressman Jared Polis and Senator Al Franken have taken on this difficult issue by offering the Student Non-Discrimination Act. The bill would simply give LGBT kids the same civil rights protections guaranteed by other anti-discrimination laws. It's common sense.
Now get this: Republicans in Congress won't bring it to a vote and Mitt Romney refuses to say whether he supports it.
Let's send a message to Romney and the Republicans: Stop pandering to the right-wing and stand up to bullying.
Help us reach 100,000 signatures today calling on Romney and the Republicans to support the Student Non-Discrimination Act.
Congressman Polis and Senator Franken's bill would institute basic common sense reforms like calling on schools to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students when they are threatened. It would also bar schools from discriminating against kids based on sexual orientation, real or perceived. School should be a safe place.
But Romney and House Republicans are so beholden to their backers on the extreme right that they refuse to support it.
Help us call them out:
