You know the old saying, "Not a dry eye in the house?"
That was certainly the case when hundreds of EMILY's List supporters came together for an inspirational night to honor and celebrate Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords -- for her spirit, her grace, her dignity, and the incredible example she has set for women who aspire to public office.

In addition to presenting Gabby with the 2012 We Are EMILY Award -- for her courage, commitment, and leadership -- we also announced the creation of the Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award.
This new award honors women serving in state or local office who reflect the values for which Gabby is known and loved.
By celebrating women leaders before a national audience, we hope to inspire women across the country to see public office as a valuable -- and achievable -- goal. When EMILY's List fills the Congress, legislatures, and governor's offices with women like Gabby Giffords, our country will be a more civil society focused on our children's and grandchildren's successful futures.
Thank you so much for helping us to honor our friend, the amazing Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, a committed public servant, and a brave, independent role model for us all. Despite the challenges ahead, her commitment to her community and country are undiminished -- and that is in part due to the amazing support of friends like you.
