SaveUSA Implementation Report Released
The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs' Office of Financial Empowerment has released a new brief, "SaveUSA Program Implementation: Insights from the Field."
SaveUSA is a tax-time matched savings program designed to encourage short-term savings among low- to moderate-income tax filers. Based on the earlier $aveNYC pilot, SaveUSA is one of five New York City programs being replicated in cities across the country with the support of the federal Social Innovation Fund. In its first year, 1,099 SaveUSA participants in New York, Newark, San Antonio, and Tulsa saved for a full year and received a match, for a total of nearly $1 million in savings.
SaveUSA is being replicated by CEO, the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, and MDRC in partnership with community-based non-profit organizations and with the support of the federal Social Innovation Fund, a public-private partnership administered by the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. CEO and the Mayor's Fund would like to thank their SaveUSA partners and supporters, including Bloomberg Philanthropies, Open Society Foundations, The Rockefeller Foundation, Annie E. Casey Foundation, Ford Foundation, George Kaiser Family Foundation, Tulsa Community Foundation, and the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
