I wanted to make sure you saw Debbie's e-mail from last week about the Paycheck Fairness Act.
This bill is the next step in our efforts to guarantee equal pay for equal work. It forbids employers from using "gag rules" on salaries that keep women in the dark about whether they are being discriminated against, and it prohibits employers from retaliating against women who file complaints about pay discrimination. It also puts in place tougher penalties for companies with discriminatory policies that pay women less than men for the same work.
Republicans in Washington are threatening to filibuster this common-sense legislation. Please take a moment to sign the petition and tell Republicans that it's time to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.

The Paycheck Fairness Act is coming up for a vote, and Republicans in the Senate are threatening to block it.
That's right, instead of focusing on jobs and the economy, Republicans want to re-fight battles about women's healthcare and equal pay that I thought were settled long ago.
Blocking the Paycheck Fairness Act will only make it harder for millions of families who are struggling to get into the middle class or stay in the middle-class and provide for their families.

If the Republican filibuster threat sounds familiar, that is because it is. Just last week, one of my Republican opponents said he thought the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was "a nuisance" that "shouldn't be law."
We need to stand up to this kind of backward thinking and send a strong signal to Republicans to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act now.
That is why I am joining with Senators Maria Cantwell, Kirsten Gillibrand, Ben Cardin, and Bob Menendez to demand Senate Republicans pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
