Roger Reid challenged his classification as a repeat sex offender (under the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act).
While he believed his misconduct wasn't serious enough to warrant that kind of designation, the Appellate Division, First Department, didn't agree.
Since this was Reid's sixth offense since 1994, and because he had "demonstrated a high risk of recidivism," the AD1 thought the given categorization was appropriate.
