nysba_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgOffice of the President

Dear Lucas:

I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the Association's response to the Chief Judge's announcement of pro bono service as a requirement for admission to practice in New York State.  Following the Chief Judge's announcement, I appointed a working group comprised of representatives of our Young Lawyers Section, General Practice Section, Committee on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar, Committee on Lawyers in Transition, Committee on Legal Aid, and the President's Committee on Access to Justice, as well as a NYSBA law student member.  The working group has been asked to confer with their respective groups to identify issues raised by the Chief Judge's proposal as well as ways to address these issues.  This information will be provided to a subcommittee of the Executive Committee to be compiled into a report that will be provided to the Chief Judge.

We will continue to follow developments with respect to this proposal and will keep you informed.  Thank you for your continued input and comments regarding this very important issue.

Sincerely,
