Dear Lucas,
Things are heating up on the campaign trail and I've been excited to meet with and listen to so many New Yorkers in every corner of the city over the past few months. You may have seen the recent coverage of my campaign in the Times and the Post . Here are some of the other things I've been up to recently:
• On April 17, I stood with educational leaders and representatives from the Working Group on School Transformation to announce the group's findings on the mayor's controversial school closings policy, which I said "resembles an educational Ponzi scheme that cheats our children and their families of assistance, support and success--and it must end";
• On April 19, I was honored to receive the Trailblazer Award at the 10th Annual "Let Us Break Bread Together" Awards Gala hosted by Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, a coalition of ministers that provides indispensable services to residents and has been a driving force behind the economic revitalization of Harlem;
• On April 20, I visited the Boriken Neighborhood Health Center to deliver a speech on the center's invaluable commitment to building a green health facility in East Harlem, and I also addressed the need to ensure healthier communities for all New Yorkers in all five boroughs;
• I was delighted to join with my friends at the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement at their annual dinner dance in Astoria; and
• I was in Flushing for the Casa Puebla New York Fiesta Cinco de Mayo Banquete, a celebration of all the multifaceted Latino cultures in New York City and their pivotal role in strengthening our economy and social fabric.
I've got many more appearance coming up over the new few weeks, and I'll be sure to keep you posted as things develop. We've also been busy putting together events for my campaign, and I hope you'll save the date for my next big fundraiser, which will be at The Empire Hotel on Tuesday, June 12, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
