Dear New Yorker,
There was a terrific write-up in the NY Times last week about our efforts to make kindergarten mandatory for all five-year-olds in New York. In case you missed it, here's a link to the article:
Kindergarten is a crucial foundation for learning, yet thousands of NYC kids enter first grade every year having never set foot in a classroom.
That's why the City Council is working with the New York State Legislature to pass a bill making kindergarten mandatory for all five-year-olds. We want to make sure we're giving our city's children the best possible start.
What's your take on making kindergarten mandatory? Visit our online Action Center at http://www.council.nyc.gov/html/action_center/mandatory_kindergarten.shtml and let us know where you stand on this important issue.
Special thanks to Council Members Jackson and Levin for helping us spearhead this effort. We'll be sure to keep you posted on our progress going forward.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Christine C. Quinn
