Dear Lucas,

I want to take the opportunity to tell you what happened in the middle of the night a few days ago how it only increases the importance of the No Bad Apples PAC

Around midnight, on the morning of the Ides of March, my Senate Democratic colleagues and I refused to support a back room deal on redistricting that disenfranchises minority voters in order to protect incumbent politicians. The redistricting scheme passed by Senate Republicans is wholesale disenfranchisement and a blatant violation of the Voting Rights Act.

When we tried to raise these issues in debate, Senate Republicans silenced us and denied us the opportunity to speak on the floor of the Senate. In response, my colleagues and I stood up for New Yorkers in the only way left to us - by leaving the Senate Chamber and refusing to legitimize their cowardly actions.

The New York Times' Saturday editorial gets it right: these midnight votes have brought us back to the ugly days of Albany's past.

Now, it's time to fight back.  Thanks to the robust candidate recruitment and outreach by our project, No Bad Apples, I am confident that we will hand down endorsements to outstanding candidates this Spring, who will go on to win elections in November.

We will attain the state government we deserve only by unseating Senators who passed this disenfranchisement plan. With your help, No Bad Apples will endorse and help elect the good government Democrats who will work for the good government reform we all want.

Help us right now by forwarding this email to a Friend, by liking us on Facebook and by following us on Twitter.

Sincerely,

PS:  You can also send a powerful message that disenfranchisement and back room deals should have no place in your state government by donating $100, $50 or $25 right now.
