The 50th Anniversary of Poison Prevention Week, March 18-24, 2012, is an ideal time to focus on steps to protect yourself and those you care about from unintentional poisoning. Unintentional poisoning deaths in the United States have increased by 160% from 1999 to 2009. The majority of these deaths--91 percent--were a result of drug poisoning, most commonly from opioid pain medications such as methadone, hydrocodone, or oxycodone.
