When we're outside in the heat, we're at risk of heat illness. But if you're a male, or someone 15 through 19 years old, you could be at greater risk.

At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, researcher Ellen Yard:

"Heat illness begins with heavy sweating, pale skin, feeling very weak or having a headache, and as it progresses it can lead to dizziness, confusion or unconsciousness, and that's a medical emergency. Initially, if it's caught early, you can simply remove the person from heat. " (17 seconds)

Yard says all heat-related illnesses are preventable.

"Different things you can do are taking a lot of water breaks, trying to restrict your activity to early or late in the day, and having an exercise partner." (9 seconds)

The study was in CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
