STOP SALE OF SICK PUPPIES

animal_rights_foundation_florida_logo_nyreblog_com_.gifUSDA proposes to regulate unlicensed, "Internet puppy mills"

One of the country's largest sellers of puppies over the Internet is based in South Florida. The company, Purebred Breeders, has sold thousands of puppies without any government oversight.

Purebred Breeders is currently the target of a lawsuit filed by 50 former customers who allege that the company sold sick puppies from substandard breeders.

The United States Department of Agriculture has proposed a rule that would require large, commercial breeders who sell pets over the Internet to meet the basic requirements of the Animal Welfare Act (humane care and safe housing). The rule would not affect small breeders who sell animals directly to the public.

You Can Help

You can help by speaking out in support of the rule. The USDA is accepting public comments through July 16.

Sample text (it's best to use your own words):

"I support the proposed rule that would require breeders who sell dogs online and by phone or mail to be licensed and inspected under the Animal Welfare Act. Providing veterinary care, adequate food and water, shelter from the elements and safe housing should be a fundamental responsibility for all pet sellers."

Thank you!
