This has been a tremendous year for the LGBTQ community and we have a great deal to be Proud of and I would like to personally invite you to march with me this Sunday in the Heritage of Pride march to celebrate .
The first same-sex marriages in New York State were officiated in the past year, and the majority of Americans - including the President of the United States - recognize our relationships as deserving equal respect under the law. Gay women and men have started serving openly in the US armed services. The forces of hatred and bigotry are in retreat.
Perhaps as importantly, we have begun to recognize and strengthen the bridges between our movement and other movements for justice. LGBTQ individuals and groups have been at the center of the Occupy movements stand against economic inequality and police misconduct. Last week, thousands from our community joined hands with the NAACP and many others to oppose all police harassment and call for an end to the Stop and Frisk policy.
There is, of course, a long way to go on all of these struggles.; And that is more reason why we march. This Sunday, I warmly invite you to march with the Yetta Kurland LIVE! contingent at the annual NYC Pride Parade. You'll get a great T-Shirt and spend the afternoon being cheered on by hundreds of thousands of celebrating, proud New Yorkers.
