Lucas-
I got into this race because I still believe in the American Dream.
And while this campaign may not have turned out how we hoped, it has reaffirmed my belief that this truly is a land of opportunity.
We were counted out from day one. We came back stronger each day. On election night, we outperformed everyone's expectations. That's what underdogs do.
It's New Mexico's underdogs that I entered this race to fight for.
And even though our campaign ends today, that fight continues.
I want to thank you for all the hours you have put into this campaign. We wouldn't have lasted one day without the phone calls you made, the doors you knocked on, the dollars you gave and the friends, family members and neighbors you encouraged to give me their support.
I only ask that you now put your commitment into making sure we elect Martin Heinrich as our next Senator and re-elect President Obama.
We need a Senator who understands that we need to invest in our people and communities, not the wealthy and powerful. Heather Wilson will not take that approach in Washington.
But Martin Heinrich will.
I have said from day one that Martin and I are united in one goal: making sure New Mexicans never have to say "Senator Heather Wilson."
That's a goal worth fighting for. And it's never been more urgent than it is today.
My family and I are humbled by your faith in us. Every day on this campaign has been a gift, and for that you have my deepest gratitude.
With your help, I know we can work together to help all New Mexicans regain their faith in the American Dream.
Thank you,
Hector
