Dear Lucas,
I want to
tell you about someone whose campaign I've been looking forward to since I
heard he might be running for the Senate.
He's a little different from our first three No Bad Apples candidates. He's a
serving legislator in the state Assembly and no political newcomer, but he's
spent his career exemplifying every quality we've looked for in our No Bad
Apples candidates. He has decided he wants to be on the front lines of the
battle to reform Albany - and that means running for the Senate.
I'm thrilled to tell you that yesterday, our No Bad Apples PAC
endorsed my friend George Latimer.
From the beginning, our No Bad Apples PAC's mission has been finding and
supporting reform-minded Democrats all over the state who should run for the
state Senate. And the fact is we
need George with us in the Senate: he's a principled,
independent reformer who has achieved results both at the county level and in
the Assembly. We will need his help to retake the majority - and once we've
won, his experience and determination will be essential to realizing the dream
of reform.
And George is 100 percent
committed to that mission - he's leaving a safe Assembly seat
to take on a challenging race. The 37th Senate District had been reliably
Democratic for decades, but the Senate Republicans have contorted the lines
shamelessly in their hyperpartisan redistricting plan. The new district carves
a winding path through southern Westchester that took more than ten
single-spaced pages to describe in the text of the redistricting bill.
But George is no stranger
to beating Republican majorities. George successfully led the
fight to turn Westchester's county legislature Democratic, and he knows every
inch of the 37th District. He has a tough race, but he knows what he needs to
do to win - and we're going
to help him.
Right off the bat, we've invested $5,000 in his campaign, and we're already
using the No Bad Apples PAC's resources to help his campaign move full steam
ahead.
We need George Latimer in the Senate. He's a proven leader, and he's ready to
take the fight for reform head-on.
