Professor Winkler will speak about the Second Amendment and the gun control/rights movement. His scholarly (yet dramatic) historic narrative uses the 2008 Supreme Court Case of District Columbia v. Heller to explore gun violence/gun safety, a topic most timely today, with the Trayvon Martin killing, which has the nation - and world - focused upon Florida's Stand Your Ground law.

Moderator: DEMETRA M. PAPPAS, St. Francis College, Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice

Speaker: ADAM WINKLER, Professor of Law, UCLA; Author, Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America (W.W. Norton, 2011)

Sponsored by: Committee on Legal History, John Q. Barrett, Chair; Committee on Books at the Bar, Hon. Diane Kiesel, Chair

Event Location:   42 West 44th St. (bet. 5th & 6th Aves.)
