What Happened to the Materials Collected?

Depending on the product, materials collected were either recycled, blended for fuel, or sent to licensed hazardous waste treatment facilities for safe disposal. All data was removed from electronics and cell phones before processing.

Electronics were responsibly recycled or refurbished for reuse through a manufacturer-funded program.

Unwanted medications were managed by DSNY environmental police and incinerated to prevent accidental poisonings or entry into the water supply.

Cell phones were donated to the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence , through Hopeline® from Verizon.

Other Ways to Discard Working & Non-Working Electronics

COMPUTERS, TVs & RELATED DEVICES: accepted at Goodwill , Salvation Army , Best Buy , Staples (note: doesn't accept TVs), and the Lower East Side Ecology Center's permanent e-waste collection center at 469 President Street in Brooklyn.
