Dear Lucas,
Nearly 30,000 registered democrats signed petitions to have her name placed on the ballot
for the Primary Election on September 13, 2012.
Only 4,000 signatures were needed, but Judge Mella's legion of friends and volunteers in every part of Manhattan were committed to making a strong showing of support.
More than 300 people from every walk of life have contributed generously.
According to the public financial disclosure statements filed yesterday, Judge Mella received the most contributions, and through those contributions the most money in the Surrogate's Court race.
Elected officials from United States Congress through local office have joined to support Judge Mella, as have community leaders, and political groups from all over the city. They recognize that her remarkable talent, her unique experience as a judge and lawyer, and her decades of community service toward social justice will make her an extraordinary Surrogate.
The work is not over. We will not rest on our success. With a little more than eight weeks to the election, there is much to be done. Look for Judge Mella all around Manhattan as she meets with voters, individually and in groups to earn their trust, and their votes.
We could not have come this far without your participation. We are grateful to the petitioners, the clubs, the volunteers, donors, staff, and many others who have helped us in so many ways.
Thank you for all you have done. We look forward to your continued support.
And now we move on, toward September and the primary.
Best regards,
Lisa Kaplan, Campaign Treasurer Judge Rita Mella for Surrogate's Court |
