HE'S FOR THE WORKING MAN (AND WOMAN)

Con Ed, the electric utility for our community, has locked out more than 8,000 union employees. Con Ed's management is jeopardizing the safety of New Yorkers because they want to cut the hard-earned benefits of workers including health care and retirement security.

The families in LeFrak City, the seniors in Elmhurst, and the children in Jackson Heights should not be put at risk during a heat wave like this. Our electric grid is under enormous strain during these hot summer days due to the necessary use of air conditioning. Con Ed is gambling by booting 8,000 skilled workers at the exact moment we need them the most to prevent a power outage. Our community can not sustain another Con Ed disaster like the blackout in 2006 which paralyzed our neighborhoods for weeks.

There is something deeply disturbing when Con Ed pays its CEO $9 million a year, rakes in $1 billion in profit and yet claims there isn't enough money to pay for basic benefits like health care and retirement security for working men and women.

Join me in telling Con Ed to bring the workers back and negotiate in good faith. Click here to sign the petition.
