New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced that his office has commenced an independent financial review of the financially-troubled State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and its affiliates.

"SUNY Downstate is a key component of New York City's health care delivery system and my auditors will seek to establish and report on the current financial solvency of the hospital," DiNapoli said. "This audit will serve as a tool for the administration to use as they seek to achieve financial stability and sustain vital service delivery."

The audit was requested in a letter sent to the Comptroller by State Senators Eric Adams, Kevin Parker, Velmanette Montgomery, John Sampson and Daniel Squadron.
