OPPOSE THE MTS

Kellner_Micah_banner.jpgMarine Transfer State (MTS) Update

I am thrilled to report that the plan to build the East 91st Street Marine Transfer Station (MTS) has been delayed once again. After hearing tremendous opposition from residents, local elected officials, and the Marine Fisheries Service, the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) has requested additional information from the Department of Sanitation (DOS) regarding the plan.

Specifically, DOS is being asked to submit current data from 91st Street and the two proposed mitigation sites. Until now, DOS has been using decade-old statistics in their planning which fails to take into account the vast changes that have occurred in the ecosystem. For example, many area fishermen have reported catching fish like the Atlantic Striped Bass, Fluke, and Bluefish, all of which do not appear anywhere in the DOS's plan.

It is vital that the ACE continues to hear our community's opposition to this plan. If you haven't already, you can submit your comments by mail to:

As always, I will continue my steadfast efforts to protect the residents and wildlife from this disastrous plan.
