Lucas,
I want to bring your attention to a disturbing trend that is developing in our State's Capital. Last week, I got a preview of the attacks the Senate Republicans plan to wage on reproductive rights.
At the beginning of the 2012 legislative session, I submitted a resolution along with like-minded colleagues calling on the Governor to declare the week of January 30th "Reproductive Rights and Justice Week." Senate Republicans responded by censoring every reference to reproductive rights, contraceptives and abortion.
This is just the opening salvo of a Republican conference so strongly opposed to the protection of women's rights and health they are attempting to censor resolutions before they reach a vote.
You can read the entire story here.
This is just one of the reasons why I formed the No Bad Apples PAC: because we need more senators in Albany who believe in protecting women's health and in open, transparent democracy.
The 2012 election cycle will be pivotal for this and other critical issues. Please join me on Thursday night to learn more about the NBA PAC's work to recruit, train and support progressive, reform-minded candidates to the New York State Senate.
Sincerely,
