This month, DoITT launched PlowNYC, a snow plow tracking tool that allows users to enter an address to see plow activity as well as snow removal categories throughout the five boroughs. PlowNYC is accessible via NYC Severe Weather when the City begins clearing snow. The program integrates with the City's existing GIS, wireless infrastructure, websites and more than 1,700 GPS-enabled vehicles. Department of Sanitation snow plows transmit approximately 15,000 data points per minute, which are plotted on a map in color-coded street segments based on the last time the street was serviced. The PlowNYC program is a partnership amongst DoITT, City Hall, the Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Sanitation.
