Rewards for Schools in NYC: 2012 Golden Apple Awards!
Since 1978, the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has honored schools in NYC for their efforts to improve the environment.
Since 2001 through the Golden Apple Awards, the DSNY Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling has rewarded schools for exemplary applied learning projects that help recycle more, waste less, or beautify the community.
Enter your school's recycling, waste prevention, and clean up efforts in one (or all three) contests of the 2012 Golden Apple Awards :
TrashMasters! Super Recyclers Show us your school recycling program!
TrashMasters! Reduce & Reuse Challenge Describe how your school reduces waste!
TrashMasters! Team Up to Clean Up Brag about your school's beautification and gardening projects!
2012 deadline: Complete descriptions and documentation of your projects must be submitted online by May 1, 2012.
See projects completed by prior year winners and get complete info on the 2012 Golden Apple Awards at nyc.gov/wasteless/goldenapple .
Each school competes within their grade division (elementary, intermediate, or high school) for citywide and borough rewards.
If your school is composting, your contest entry is also reviewed for the Golden Shovel Award honoring the Master School Composter in each borough.
