Dear Friend,
Last week I delivered my annual State of the Borough Speech , and I want to share my proposals for reclaiming New York City as a place where middle class and working families can thrive:
Middle Class Tax Cut - It's not right that a $50,000 per year teacher pays the same tax rate as a $500,000 CEO. Learn more in the Wall Street Journal and NY1 about my collaboration with State Sen. Adriano Espaillat and Assemblymember Robert Rodriguez to provide middle class income tax relief that would restore fairness and boost the economy. Watch Video
Expanding Affordable Housing - 110,000 units are in foreclosure or on the brink of it across New York City. I laid out a plan to rehab those buildings, creating more of the affordable housing we need. Watch Video
Small Business Lifeline - Too many banks have rolled down the teller windows on small businesses. As reported in the Daily News , I've proposed an alternative lending source, so they can grow and remain the bedrock of our neighborhoods. Watch Video
High-Tech Job Incubators - I outlined plans to create thousands of green collar and high-tech jobs, and keep talented entrepreneurs here in New York City. Watch Video
Reforming Stop and Frisk - Last year the NYPD stopped, questioned and frisked 700,000 people: In 94% of these cases there were no arrests; in 99.8% no gun was found, and 85% targeted Blacks and Latinos. It's time to change this policy which doesn't work and breeds distrust in communities of color. Watch Video
Sincerely,
Scott M. Stringer,
Manhattan Borough President
