Dear ARFF supporters,
Did you know that the United States is the only developed nation on the planet that still uses chimpanzees in invasive research? Despite clear evidence that chimpanzees are poor models for human disease research, around 1,000 chimpanzees are still languishing in U.S. laboratories, some in cages no bigger than a kitchen table.
Please watch this video from our friends at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and take action today:
A coalition of national animal-protection organization is working around the clock to pass the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act, a bill that will end the use of chimpanzees in invasive experimentation. Their efforts got a major boost in December, when the Institute of Medicine released a report that stated there was no area of human disease research for which the continued use of chimpanzees was absolutely necessary.
The Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act is a federal bill, but it needs our attention. Neither Sen. Marco Rubio nor Sen. Bill Nelson have co-sponsored the bill, and only 7 of our of 25 Florida U.S. Representatives currently support the bill. You can see a full list of co-sponsors here .
Join celebrities like Ellen Degeneres, James Franco, and Alec Baldwin, all of whom have recently taken action to end chimpanzees experimentation in the U.S. Please call our Senators and your U.S. Representative today and urge them to co-sponsor the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (H.R. 1513/S. 810)
