Dear New Yorker,
On Monday, February 27th, the NYC Council's Women's Issues Committee will be holding a public hearing on Reso. 1064 . This resolution, co-sponsored by Council Member Danny Dromm and Women's Issues Committee Chair Julissa Ferreras, calls on Congress to renew the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
The VAWA is a critical piece of federal legislation that has redefined the way domestic violence and other forms of violence against women are handled, providing vital resources and support to domestic violence and sexual assault service providers here in New York and in communities around the nation. However, despite it being one of our most effective weapons to fight violence against women, the VAWA is set to expire this year.
Help ensure that this landmark legislation is renewed for another five years!
