ABOUT THE HON. GEORGE J. SILVER

Judge Silver has the judicial and legal experience to be an outstanding Supreme Court Justice.  His varied work as an attorney and Judge, his unwavering belief in our system of justice, and his personal dedication to our community are just some of the reasons why for two years running, New York County's Independent judicial screening panels have found Judge Silver to be "most highly qualified' to serve as a Supreme Court justice.  Throughout his career, Judge Silver has demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that our legal system provides fair and compassionate justice to everyone.

An Experienced and Well-Rounded Judge

In November 2004, Judge Silver was elected to Civil Court in Manhattan.  From January 2005 through 2009, Judge Silver served with distinction in Civil Court, Kings County, presiding over small claims, 325-D, commercial landlord tenant, no fault and other Civil Court cases.  In April 2009, he was reassigned to the Family Court in the Bronx where he presided over juvenile delinquency cases.

In January 2010, Judge Silver was promoted to Full Acting Supreme Court Justice and was assigned back to New York County.  In the New York County Supreme Court he presided over the Motor Vehicle Part, a Part which had one of the largest inventories of cases in New York County.  From 2010-2011, over 1,600 decisions came out of Judge Silver's Part.  Due to his incredible success in reducing his caseload, the Office of Court Administration asked Judge Silver to preside over the Trial Assessment Part (TAP) in addition to handling the Motor Vehicle Part.  Judge Silver also continues to preside over hospital hearings and criminal arraignments.

Judge Silver values our community and is dedicated to ensuring that every litigant who comes before the New York State courts receives a fair hearing.  Judge Silver possesses sound judgment and has the courage and respect for the law to apply it decisively, consistently and evenhandedly.  His integrity, diligence, and independence are qualities that exemplify the finest jurists in New York State.
