In 2013, New York City will be electing a new mayor, and a majority of the City Council will also be newly elected, offering an opportunity to change our government for the better.
The status quo is never good enough, and I refuse to settle for anything less than a system that works for ALL of us. That's why I am an organizer, an activist, and a legal advocate -- fighting to ensure that workers earn a fair wage, protecting local businesses from "big box" competition, organizing protests when the Klu Klux Klan came to town, planning a conference to challenge worldwide racism and genocide, representing local parents to protect our public schools from the bureaucrats and profiteers, advocating for tax reform for co-op and condo owners, preserving affordable housing, forming block associations and advocacy groups. I am now preparing to take the fight to another platform, seeking to represent the Upper West Side in the New York City Council. It is my goal to bring progressive activism and institutional reform to the governance of our city and the operation of our City Council. As I embark on this exciting journey, I ask you to join me.
