DID OBAMA LIE?

public_citizen_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgLucas,

Photograph of Joe Biden and Obama President Obama's State of the Union address was all about "Made in America" and rebuilding American manufacturing:

"Tonight, I want to speak about how we move forward, and lay out a blueprint for an economy that's built to last -- an economy built on American manufacturing, American energy ... and a renewal of American values. This blueprint begins with American manufacturing."

Sounds great! Unfortunately, U.S. trade negotiators are about to do just the opposite -- through a trade agreement that will ban Buy America and establish new investor rights, incentives and protections for U.S. manufacturers to move production offshore to low-wage venues. And one of the countries involved in these talks is Vietnam, the lower-cost-labor alternative to China!

While President Obama would like to see more Made in America, trade negotiators and the corporate executives who sit as trade advisers are bargaining away his blueprint for "an economy built to last" this week in southern California. We know the trade negotiators and corporate lobbyists won't listen, but Vice- resident Joe Biden, long-time dedicated supporter of American manufacturing, has President Obama's attention.

Get the message out to Vice President Joe Biden: Protect our "Buy America" policies and stand for American manufacturing jobs -- help us alert President Obama to the threat posed by the current direction of Trans-Pacific FTA trade talks.

The window of opportunity to influence the negotiations is rapidly coming to a close. It's time Vice President Joe Biden heard our hopes and dreams for a trade deal that actually holds up the very blueprint he applauded during the State of Union address and pressed for during his New Hampshire visit to two manufacturing plants last week.

The Trans-Pacific FTA can be made right and right here before it's too late.

Send VP Joe Biden your blueprint for a fair trade deal.
