CONGRESSIONAL CORRUPTION

public_citizen_banner_nyreblog_com_.jpgLucas,

Insider trading is illegal. It is for people like you and me, anyway.

But, appallingly, the laws against insider trading have never been applied to members of Congress and their staffs.

Considering the frequent meetings between corporate lobbyists and congressional members, this circumstance is ripe for corruption.

Tell Congress to ban congressional insider trading.

The bipartisan "Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge" (STOCK) Act would make it clear that Congress is subject to the same laws against insider trading that apply to the rest of America.

Public Citizen has supported this legislation for years -- it was first introduced in 2009. The bill was recently thrust into national spotlight by a report on "60 Minutes."

Research suggests that congressional insider trading is real. Investments by senators have outperformed the market by as much as 12 percent -- double the success rate of corporate insiders. (1)

Members of Congress are supposed to represent the public, not stuff their pocketbooks.

Urge your members of Congress to pass the STOCK Act.
