SUSTAIN THE OUTRAGE

Dear friends,

As 2012 comes to a close we face a transformational moment. The horrific tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut has reignited the gun control debate with a new vitality not seen since the Long Island Rail Road shooting in 1993. I remember working with President Clinton to rally the nation and pass the Brady Bill, the Ban on Assault Weapons, and the Ban on Large Capacity Ammunition Magazines. The stars are aligning now like they did then.

We can actually get something done.

But the NRA is digging in, calling for armed guards in every school as opposed to sensible legislation, which is why the Crime Commission is gearing up for a full court press when the 113th Congress convenes in January. As I've said on Charlie Rose, NY1, and in the Daily News, the key will be to sustain the outrage we feel today.

Join me in making a New Year's resolution to stay outraged and commit yourself to the fight ahead. The Crime Commission needs your support now more than ever.

Stay tuned in the weeks and months ahead as we continue to reach out with action plans and announcements. We're all in this together.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday, and a happy New Year.

Best,

Richard M. Aborn
