PAY DAY

After Segal & Lax filed a lawsuit against the City of New York, the case was handed over to The Perecman Firm, which ended up securing a $2.2 million settlement.

When the Bronx County Supreme Court awarded Segal & Lax fifteen percent of the case's legal fees, The Perecman Firm appealed, arguing that it deserved a larger piece of the pie because it had performed the lion's share of the work.

Since Perecman "did significantly more work"--because it had conducted discovery, retained experts, selected the jury, tried the case, and secured the settlement--the Appellate Division, First Department, thought that Perecman was entitled to 95 percent of the fee.

That was far from Lax.
