HAPPY 1000 DAYS!

Dear Friends,

Today marks 1,000 days since New York's Paid Sick Leave bill was introduced into the City Council. New Yorkers deserve better.

Paid sick leave isn't a luxury - it provides critical flexibility for working parents, strengthens families and neighborhoods, and ultimately reduces the cost of doing business for employers.

Despite having the support of two-thirds of the City Council — enough to override a mayoral veto — the bill has been blocked from reaching the Council floor for an up-or-down vote.

  • In the 1,000 days since this bill was introduced, paid sick leave laws were implemented in Seattle and the state of Connecticut. Meanwhile San Francisco and Washington, D.C. had paid sick leave laws on the books the entire time.
  • In the last 1,000 days, millions of New Yorkers got the flu, or needed to tend to a sick child or an elderly parent. Thousands of New Yorkers lost pay or may have lost their jobs because they had to care for a sick child or loved one.

And still we wait.

Don't let the City Council forget this milestone. Click here or select one of the images below to send the Council an e-Card so their members get the message that New Yorkers need paid sick days now more than ever.
