GIVE US $60 BILLION!

Dear New Yorker,

Our region has been incredibly hard hit by Hurricane Sandy, and we are still digging out and making repairs. Because of this incredible damage and the still-lingering effects of the storm, there is a proposal in the U.S. Senate for $60 billion in proposed federal funding for victims of Hurricane Sandy. However, Speaker Boehner and the House of Representatives adjourned for the holidays before working with the Senate to get this desperately needed relief package passed.

Thousands of residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are still suffering without heat, hot water, or electricity as the cold of winter approaches. Clearly, now is not the time to set something this urgent aside.

Please sign the New York City Council's online petition calling on Speaker Boehner to bring the House back into session so that a $60 billion relief package can get passed before the end of the year. To sign, click here.

Our petition also urges the House and Senate to work together to put people first, the same way both parties worked together after disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav.

This isn't about differing theories of economics or different beliefs on social issues. This is about helping our fellow Americans in need after one of the worst natural disasters that our nation has ever seen.

Help ensure that Congress passes the necessary $60 billion funding that we need to help those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Sign our online petition here. And please encourage your friends, family and neighbors to sign it as well. Congress must help us meet the needs of all victims of Hurricane Sandy this holiday season.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Christine C. Quinn

Speaker

NYC Council
