Dear Friend,
As we come together to celebrate the holiday season and usher in 2013, we reflect on the year that has passed.
In 2012, we made significant progress towards building a new New York, one rooted in fairness, opportunity, and prosperity for all. But we also experienced great tragedy. Hurricane Sandy impacted communities across New York, destroying homes and businesses, and devastating the lives of countless New Yorkers. Most recently, our neighboring state of Connecticut experienced an unthinkably horrific tragedy as 20 children and six school officials were killed by a gunman in Newtown.
These tragedies weigh on our hearts this holiday season, and as we all join our families in honoring our traditions, I hope you will find your own way to also reflect on those who are in need or less fortunate. We cannot forget that even in the face of devastating and heartbreaking loss, our communities have always been able to come together to heal and rebuild.
I wish you and yours a warm holiday season and peace and prosperity in 2013.
Sincerely,
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
