This morning I spoke at church services in East Flatbush, Brooklyn about the urgent need for action following Friday's horrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut that took lives of 26 lives adults and children (video).

No American will every forget this tragedy. It cuts us to the core.
When the President spoke on Friday, he captured something we all felt. We are all holding our kids closer.
Friday's shooting wasn't just the act of a single, troubled young man. It's the outcome of years of weakening gun laws, preventing stronger common sense ones from being passed.

As parents, the only thing that will give Chirlane and me peace of mind is when we can keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. We need Republicans and Democrats to stop standing in the way of common sense.
