Dear
Friend,
One striking statistic from our recent survey of public school
teachers is this: teachers spend an average of $26 a month to buy food for kids
in their classroom.
It's shocking, not just because teachers
are reaching into their own pockets, but because the need is so widespread.
Teachers across America are seeing childhood hunger like never before, and it's
hard to turn away when they see that their students are hungry and struggling to
concentrate. Some of the teachers we surveyed shared their experiences, like
this one:
"One day this year a student shyly approached me during a
test. She said she was having trouble with it. I asked what kind of help she
needed. She said, 'I don't need help with the questions. I need help because I'm
hungry and I can't think.'"
We can make sure that kids like these get
food they need every day. Meal programs exist, but the children who need them
the most don't always participate. That's where you can help.
You can make a
huge difference for hungry kids just by matching the average teacher's donation
of $26 -- or make an even bigger impact with a gift of $52 or $78. Whatever
you can afford, you'll help kids facing hunger as they go back to school. And
every dollar you donate can help connect a child in need to 10
meals.
Here's another story one of the teachers shared:
"A
student in my class said he hadn't eaten in 2-3 days because of the long
weekend. Friday's school lunch was the last meal he had eaten and it was
Monday."
It doesn't have to be this way. Please help
today by making a tax-deductible gift to the No Kid Hungry campaign. Help bring
an end to hunger for a child in need -- please give generously
now.
Thanks for all you do for hungry
kids.
Sincerely,
Billy Shore
