Schumer: Saratoga's Signature Blue Bottle Will Represent Capital Region in Historic Ceremonies
Last week, at the Saratoga Spring Water Company, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer toured the generations-old bottling facility and announced his selection of Saratoga Spring bottled water to be served during the 57th Presidential Inauguration ceremonies on Monday, January 21, 2013. Schumer is the Chairman of the 2013 Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies and has the honor to help choose which food, beverages, performers and more are featured at the Presidential Inauguration. Schumer's decision will help draw national attention to this Saratoga Springs company.
"Saratoga Spring water has long been one of my beverages of choice, so when given the opportunity to share its iconic blue bottle with hundreds of guests at the Presidential Inauguration, it was a no brainer," said Schumer. "After touring this impressive bottling facility, I am thrilled to announce that Saratoga Spring will be served to official guests at the Presidential Inauguration. I am honored to have been selected to plan the festivities at the Presidential Inauguration, particularly because it allows me to showcase this iconic Capital Region company and its superior product at the 57th Inauguration in January."
Schumer was joined by Saratoga Spring Water Company COO Adam Madkour, Dennis Brobston, President of SEDC, Kathleen Fyfe of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott Johnson, NYS Senator Roy McDonald as well as Saratoga business and community leaders to make this exciting announcement for this iconic Capital Region business.
The Joint Committee was authorized by S. Con. Res. 35, which passed the Senate on March 1, 2012, and the House on March 5th. Members of JCCIC are appointed by the Vice President and the Speaker of the House. In accordance with tradition, the Senate representatives on JCCIC are Majority Leader Harry Reid, Rules Committee Chairman Schumer, and Rules Committee Ranking Member Lamar Alexander. The House members of JCCIC are Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The Joint Inaugural Committee, with Schumer as the Chairman, plans the events that take place at the U.S. Capitol on Inauguration Day. They include the swearing-in ceremonies of the President and Vice President on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol overlooking the National Mall, and the Inaugural luncheon. The luncheon, for 232 invited dignitaries, takes place in Statuary Hall in the Capitol following the swearing-in ceremonies. Schumer will be Master of Ceremonies for both events.
The guests invited to the luncheon include the President and Vice President, former Presidents, Justices of the Supreme Court, members of the President's Cabinet, and leaders of the House and Senate, among others.
"I can't wait to see our guests at the Inaugural luncheon and throughout the Capitol on Inauguration Day drinking America's best water from the iconic blue Saratoga bottles," Schumer continued. "I know they will enjoy this special taste of New York."
S. Con. Res. 35 established the date of the 2013 inauguration as Monday, January 21, 2013, since January 20, 2013 is a Sunday. This is the seventh time in U.S. history that the constitutionally mandated inauguration date has fallen on a Sunday. The last time was for President Ronald Reagan's second inauguration in 1985. When this occurs, the public ceremonies traditionally are held on Monday.
In addition, January 21, 2013 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It will be the second time that this federal holiday has coincided with a Presidential inauguration. The first was President Bill Clinton's second inauguration on Monday, January 20, 1997.
