Lucas,
At last.
Thanks to activists like you, members of Congress soon will be banned -- like the rest of us are -- from insider trading.
Public Citizen has been fighting for this commonsense reform since 2006. When President Obama signed the STOCK Act into law, it was the first meaningful ethics legislation to be passed in years.
Unfortunately, the law contains a loophole that allows Wall Street to continue secretly collecting insider information on Capitol Hill.
So take a moment to celebrate. Then let's get right back to work.
Tell Congress to close the loophole right away by passing the Restore Public Trust Act (H.R. 4054) and its companion legislation in the Senate.
Make no mistake -- even if it could have been more sweeping, the STOCK Act is an unprecedented step forward for all who support an end to corporate corruption in Congress.
For the first time, members of Congress will be prohibited from using their special access to nonpublic information to trade on the stock market, and a system of near real-time disclosure on stock trading by Congress will be created to help enforce the law.
The Restore Public Trust Act, sponsored by Reps. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) and Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), takes things a step further. This bill, alongside legislation in the Senate sponsored by Sens. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), would stop Wall Street from secretly collecting insider information from Congress, and it would strengthen the nation's anti-corruption laws.
Now we have to turn up the pressure -- and this is where you and Public Citizen come in.
Let's make sure that Wall Street can't try to make a fast buck by secretly trolling the halls of Congress for privileged information.
Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the Restore Public Trust Act.

Thanks for all you do,
Rick Claypool
