A Message from
Council Member Daniel R. Garodnick
Dear Lucas,
Taxes are due on April 17, 2012. Are you ready? With just weeks to go until the deadline, I wanted to inform you of some free and low cost tax preparation options available to you.
There are many tax sites across the City where volunteers will prepare your tax returns for free. Some sites have income requirements, so make sure to find the right site for your needs. The City's Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) has a list of these free sites, searchable by neighborhood, on their website .
If you make less than $57,000, you can file your tax return online for free. DCA has prepared step-by-step directions to guide you through the online submission .
I also want to remind you of tax credits to which you may be entitled. Check out DCA's Tax Credit Fast Facts for important tips on preparing your taxes and tax credits available. One credit that I wanted to highlight is the NYC Child Care Tax Credit (CCTC), which offers a tax rebate of up to $1,733 for families with children under the age of four and with an income of less than $30,000. For more information you can call 311 and mention "child care tax credit" or visit DCA's website .
Please feel free to contact me or my staff about this or anything else, either by responding to this email, or by visiting www.garodnick.com . You can also follow me on Twitter, at @dangarodnick .
Sincerely,
Daniel R. Garodnick
