Lucas,
Tuesday, September 5, will be Congress' first day back in Washington, D.C., after the August recess.
Already, on this very first day back, corporate cronies in the Senate will be attempting to thwart the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from protecting consumers and holding predatory lenders accountable.
During a hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, they'll be trying to halt the confirmation of Richard Cordray, President Obama's nominee to lead the new consumer bureau.
Tell your senators: Confirm Cordray.
How do we know there will be a conflict?
We know because 44 Republican senators have pledged to oppose ANY director unless the bureau is weakened first.
Until a confirmed director is in place, the agency won't be able to do its job nearly as effectively or aggressively as is necessary to prevent future financial catastrophes. By law, the agency does not gain some of its authority until a director is in place.
Let's show our senators that the American people are sick of theatrical grandstanding.
Make sure your senators -- especially if you have a Republican senator -- know that you support Richard Cordray and a strong Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

As Ohio's attorney general, Cordray aggressively stood up to banks engaging in deceptive practices and rampant foreclosures, and ultimately saved residents of that state more than $2 billion.
Elizabeth Warren picked Cordray to lead the part of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that's responsible for cracking down on predatory banks. Then, Obama picked him to lead the new agency. Warren is now considering running to become a U.S. Senator for Massachusetts.
Thanks for all you do,
