We knew when we supported Tammy's first campaign for the House in 1998 that she was going to do great things. She's exceeded all our expectations, becoming a true champion for women and families. She was a critical voice in helping our five women during the recalls in Wisconsin and a strong advocate against Gov. Scott Walker's agenda.
Tammy has a reputation of reaching across the aisle while still working for progressive values. As a member of Congress, she wrote laws expanding breast cancer screenings and enhancing veterans benefits, and she's a major force behind legislation to expand hate crimes laws and eliminate workplace discrimination. And she'd make history as the first openly gay U.S. Senator.
I cannot stress how important this race is for all of us. Our Democratic majority in the Senate is razor thin. If we lose our Senate majority, the Tea Party Republicans will have free reign to wage their war on women -- defunding Planned Parenthood, eliminating Medicare, gutting education.
