You can make a difference in the lives of millions of kids at risk of hunger by participating in Dine Out For No Kid Hungry this week, September 18-24.
If you took the Back-to-School quiz I sent to you a couple days ago, you'll know that a startling number of teachers are regularly purchasing food -- spending as much as $25 a month out of their own pockets -- for hungry kids in their classroom!
But with more than 16 million children at risk of hunger in our country, this problem is much too big for teachers to solve alone. And one easy way you can help is with your fork!
This Sunday, we are kicking off our annual Dine Out For No Kid Hungry. Thousands of restaurants across the nation -- including many in your own neighborhood -- are participating. When you eat at participating restaurants this week, you'll help bring us one step closer to ending childhood hunger in America.
Find the participating restaurants in your neighborhood.
With the funds raised through Dine Out For No Kid Hungry, Share Our Strength invests in its growing number of state and city-based partnerships and nonprofit organizations across the country, tackling childhood hunger in the following ways:
- Ensuring more kids will be fed throughout the summer when school meals aren't available.
- Connecting kids to school breakfasts so they can start the school day right.
- Providing nutritious meals and snacks at afterschool programs.
- Helping families get the food they need at home by improving access to SNAP (food stamps) and WIC.
- Teaching families how to prepare affordable, healthy meals, and bringing fresh and healthy food options to high-risk communities.
Thank you for joining us during this year's Dine Out For No Kid Hungry.
Sincerely,
